CAHP BREAKS GROUND ON FOUR AFFORDABLE SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES
More turn-key affordable homeownership opportunities coming to Lansing
LANSING, Mich. - In a testament to the power of community, Capital Area Housing Partnership, along with its neighbors and supporters, broke ground Monday morning in the Lansing-Eaton Neighborhood. This marked the start of construction on four affordable single-family houses, a project that wouldn't be possible without the collective effort and support of the community.

Capital Area Housing Partnership, a local nonprofit that has successfully spearheaded several developments, plans to deliver four single-family homes, including three new construction and one rehab, before the end of the year. Their development on Glenburne Boulevard, located in the Lansing-Eaton Neighborhood, will be the sixth home built in this area.

"The current housing market is posing a significant challenge for aspiring homeowners to realize their dream of homeownership, primarily due to the limited housing options in our area," emphasized Emma Henry, executive director of Capital Area Housing Partnership. "This is why our strategic approach is to bridge the gaps in core neighborhoods by creating affordable homeownership opportunities, coupled with down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers. This initiative is not just about building houses but a stronger, more inclusive community."

Since 2019, Capital Area Housing Partnership has delivered critical investments to construct 16 single-family homes in Lansing. These developments have been made possible through a diverse mix of funding sources, including the HOME Investment Partnership grant funding awarded to the City of Lansing annually from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The generous charitable donations from the community have played a significant role in making this initiative a reality, underscoring the community's invaluable contribution to addressing our housing needs.

"This is community-supported development for Lansing at its finest," said Mayor Schor. "Investments in our housing stock are essential to our economic vibrancy and enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods and for our residents."

Each home, designed to meet high energy-efficiency standards, will offer two to three bedrooms and modern amenities such as an open layout and stainless-steel appliances. The construction is set to be completed this fall. Capital Area Housing Partnership will list the homes for sale at their appraised value and provide up to $14,999 in down payment assistance to help eligible first-time homebuyers bridge financial gaps.

"The Eaton County Land Bank is proud to work with Capital Area Housing Partnership to return vacant properties to productive use in the Lansing-Eaton neighborhood," said Eaton County Treasurer Bob Robinson. "These developments benefit our local schools, businesses, and local units of government and add value to the residents who call this neighborhood home."
