Home Buyer Education

Our Home Buyer Education Workshop should be your first step on your road to homeownership. Home Buyer Education Workshops are held monthly and satisfy requirements for a homeownership education certificate to qualify for down payment assistance provided by local and state agencies. Each class lasts a total of 6-8 hours and covers topics such as how to select a realtor, types of mortgages and how to choose the right one for you, property taxes, the right home for you, home maintenance, and more.

  • Classes cost $20 per participant

  • Classes are held at the Neighborhood Empowerment Center - 600 W. Maple, Lansing.

Pre-Purchase Counseling​

Following the completion of the Home Buyer Education class, we offer the one-on-one credit and/or financial counseling sometimes needed to prepare for the purchase of a home.

We offer up to 3 hours of assistance in the preparation of obtaining a mortgage. In order to best use this time we ask that you provide the documentation needed for our certified counselors to be prepared for your meeting before your meeting.

Financial Workshops for Homeownership

In our Financial Workshops, we provide information on the broader financial aspects of homeownership.

Our series of classes cover important money management strategies - such as record-keeping, savings, budgeting, credit, identity-theft and predatory lending, and insurance and long-term planning.
